Overview: Understanding and Addressing Unconscious Bias in the Workplace

Whether you engage in hiring, managing internal transitions, or nurturing early-career talent, understanding and addressing biases are essential for fostering inclusivity and informed decision-making.

Unconscious bias profoundly influences decision-making, often resulting in missed opportunities to create a diverse and inclusive workforce. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore distinct types of unconscious bias through real-life examples, gaining insights into how bias impacts our judgment. We will walk through day-to-day situations where bias plays a role, fostering a deeper understanding of its effects and then equip participants with actionable strategies to create a fair and positive work environment. Participants will learn tools to challenge internal stereotypes within their workplace.

Course Description: Exploring Unconscious Bias

Exploring Different Forms of Unconscious Bias

Whether it is Confirmation Bias, the Horn/Halo Effect, Beauty Bias, or Authority Bias, all impact our judgment and decision-making process.

Recognising and Identifying Our Own Biases

Identify and analyse where our own biases lie on a day-to-day basis and the impact this has on our daily lives.

People and Role Stereotypes

Specific roles are still aligned to perceived genders, such as nurse or pilot. We tend to think female (nurse) and male (pilot). How do we shift this mindset to become more inclusive?

Creating a Positive Approach to Making a Difference

Learn how to challenge Unconscious Bias in our colleagues or managers to make a positive change within our everyday environment.

Our Responsibilities Under the Equality Act 2010

Understand the list of protected characteristics for individuals to create an inclusive workforce, even if workstations, hours, or conditions must be altered. How do we make this fair to all?
